It took just about one week for the company to complete its liquidation process without following the due processes for mine decommissioning. Information gathered from sources close to the official liquidator of the assets of the company indicates that a High Court order was given on 25th March 2004 for the liquidation, which was subsequently executed on the 30th of March 2004. [Lire] - 4 August 2004 Petition Against the Payment of Crop Compensation by Newmont Gold Mining Company Ltd - Kenyasi 703 farmers from six communities in the Asutifi District of the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana have petitioned the Minister of Mines against the payment of unrealistic crop compensation package by Newmont Gold Mining Company. The petition was submitted by the Asutifi Concerned Farmers Association and copied to eight other organizations including Third World Network-Africa (TWN-Af). TWN-Af chooses to make the petition public partly in response to recent campaign by Newmont on its operation in Ghana and partly to further the debate about mining and community realities.
